Matawa Post Secondary Program

The Matawa Post Secondary Program has been in operation since March 1997. It has the responsibility for the Post Secondary Administration for the following First Nations;  Aroland, Ginoogaming, Long Lake # 58, Neskantaga, and Webequie First Nations. Support Services are available to other Matawa First Nation students upon request.

The Matawa Post Secondary Program was designed to ensure that individual First Nations have positive input in decision making, effective control and efficient use of funding, with student accountability for their own people’s educational future. The Matawa Post Secondary Program believes that students need a support system in place in order to succeed.  A monitoring system has been established that will enable the student, post secondary counsellor and their community to work together in assisting them to graduate within the required time.

The Matawa Post Secondary Program, along with administrative duties, offers ongoing services or assistance to students in the areas of:

  • Social & academic counselling
  • Course/Program selections
  • Resource information
  • Orientation
  • Monthly newsletters
  • Post Secondary preparation (meet with grade 12)
  • Direct Deposit (banking/payment distribution services)
  • Other services that the students may need to assist them with meeting their education goals
  • Referrals
  • Setting up tutors
  • Application process
  • Monitoring
  • College/University Visits
  • Social events (s) i.e. Orientation, Christmas & Fall gatherings, Career Fairs, Classroom presentations, etc.
  • Data base (tracking system for maintaining student files)
  • Continue to upgrade program
