![]() | In the fall of 2006, the Matawa Education Department in partnership with Matawa Employment and Training (MET) opened the “Sacred Fire Resource Centre” (SFRC) to provide Matawa clients, students, and education professionals with access to resources and services. The SFRC is fully equipped with new computers with printer and internet access. Visitors to the SFRC can conduct research, surf the web, or type their resume. For Educators, the SFRC currently houses several educational resources with the hopes of setting up an education database. |

Sacred Fire Logo

Design by Elliott Doxtater
The main concept behind the logo is education and the strengths that will encourage and enrich Anishnaabek People to strive to reach their goals of empowerment and knowledge.
The eagle is a symbol of strength and a messenger. The wings of the eagle are also open pages of a book.
The fire is representative of the sacred fires that our people have used, not only as warmth when sharing and learning, also as a teaching aid itself. The fire is also a symbol of a desire that burns within us to attain knowledge.
The feathers of the eagle and the ones in the book are directly related to the different communities associated with Matawa.
The spear is taken from the Matawa emblem as a representation of the willingness to offer strength and support to other communities, groups, organizations, and nations.
