CALL FOR ARTIST INTERPRETATIONS/ARTWORK FOR MATAWA HEALTH & SOCIAL MENO BIIMADESWIN MANUAL

Thunder Bay, ON —Matawa Health and Social Meno Biimadeswin (MHSMB) is developing a resource manual for front-line mental health and wellness workers. The Manual: BEHMADESWIHKAMIK: LIFE LODGE – A PLACE OF GOOD LIFE will provide guidelines/resources to workers so that there can be improved coordination between services and more effective case management for individuals who need support and assistance in their healing journey.  The aim is that this Manual can help ensure that mental health and wellness workers can work together more effectively so that no one falls through the cracks.

We are currently accepting original Indigenous artwork from the Matawa First Nations to be submitted (painting, drawing, or photo). Artwork will be digitized and used for inclusion in the Manual. It must translate well into printed and promotional material. We are seeking artwork that supports and promotes the title/theme of the Manual—whatever that says, looks like or feels like. Whatever we receive from the communities will be very helpful in ensuring that the Manual expresses the ideas and feelings of people living (and healing) in the Matawa First Nations.

We are interested in receiving artwork from anyone—from someone who has done a lot of artwork to someone who has never done any before. From the artwork submitted, MHSMB will select nine (9) pieces. We would like to select one piece from each of the Matawa First Nations. Once purchased, the artwork will become the sole property of Matawa First Nations Management for use in the Manual.

To Make a Submission:

Please submit an electronic copy or clear photograph of your artwork, a description including what it represents, your Matawa First Nation membership as well as your contact information (phone and email). Send submissions by April 26, 2021 to: Ila Beaver, Mental Wellness Teams Lead Facilitator by email to: ibeaver@matawa.on.ca or by mail to: Matawa First Nations Management | Attn: Ila Beaver, Mental Wellness Teams Lead Facilitator | 233 Court Street South | Thunder Bay, ON | P7B 2X9

Short artist biographies would be appreciated, if applicable. We appreciate all submissions; however, only the winners will be contacted during the first week of May 2021.
