EABAMETOONG FIRST NATION MOURNS THE PASSING OF FORMER CHIEF CHARLIE OKEES

EABAMET LAKE, ON: Eabametoong First Nation Chief Sol Atlookan, on behalf of Eabametoong First Nation Council, sends condolences to the family, friends and community following the passing of former Chief and community leader Charlie Okees on January 16, 2025 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

He sets out for the everlasting homelands knowing that he made his contribution to the betterment of Indigenous Peoples. Not only did he serve the community, he also provided founding direction to Nishnawbe-Aski Nation and Matawa First Nations Management (he was the longest serving Board of Director for over 25 years).

His love for his homelands, his community and the People will never be forgotten along with his dedication, commitment, strength and service.

A fuller tribute honouring him and funeral arrangements will be provided in the coming days.
