MATAWA EDUCATION & CARE CENTRE HOST 2025 GRADUATION
THUNDER BAY, ON — The Matawa Education and Care Centre (MECC) will host a graduation ceremony celebrating the Class of 2025. This milestone event will honour the achievements of 16 graduates from the Matawa First Nations communities who have successfully obtained their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
The ceremony will feature a luncheon, procession, opening remarks, convocation, and presentation of awards. We have invited graduates’ families, MECC partners, representatives, and other dignitaries to join us for this special occasion.
Four students will serve as valedictorians for MECC’s 2025 graduating class: Everett Baxter, Carey Echum-Wesley, Lyn (Kayla) Spence, and Landon Yellowhead. Special Programs Officer Brittany Kennedy and Special Education Coordinator Cheryl Ugray will act as Masters of Ceremonies.
The ceremony will also include the presentation of the Jordan Wabasse Memorial Awards. MECC Elders and dignitaries will provide remarks, along with Principal Brad Battiston, Vice-Principal Jacqueline Carrier, and Dr. Sharon L. Nate, Chief Executive Officer of Matawa First Nations Management.
