MEDIA ADVISORY

NESKANTAGA FIRST NATION TO WELCOME JAGMEET SINGH, LEADER OF CANADA’S NDP IN COMMUNITY VISIT

LANDSDOWNE HOUSE, ON: Neskantaga First Nation Chief Wayne Moonias and his community will be welcoming Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP in a community visit on Monday, September 13, 2021 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Mr. Signh’s wife Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu will be accompanying him.

The First Nation will be giving the Mr. Signh a firsthand view of the effects the 26-year boil water advisory has on health and living conditions of the community. They will also be discussing other issues such as social emergencies, deterioration of housing and other infrastructure, amongst others.

The visit will mark the 2nd time Mr. Signh has been to Neskantaga in the past month.  The stories shared with him from the people of the community were impactful at that time but were incomplete due to time.

Many of these issues will be discussed in the context of the federal election taking place on September 20, 2021. The community will be using the visit to highlight attention to on-the-ground Indigenous issues on-reserve which, disappointingly, have been non-existent by all parties in this election campaign cycle.
