2ND WORLD DIABETES DAY AWARENESS WALK TO BE HOSTED BY MATAWA HEALTH CO-OPERATIVE AND SIOUX LOOKOUT FIRST NATIONS HEALTH AUTHORITY

THUNDER BAY, ON: The Matawa Health Co-operative (MHC), in partnership with the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA), will be hosting a 2nd World Diabetes Day Awareness Walk. The theme, this year, is “Empowering Global Health.”  Participants have been encouraged to wear blue.

Matawa First Nations Management CEO David Paul Achneepineskum will be on hand to provide remarks specific to how Indigenous people experience diabetes and what needs to be done to prevent and control the disease. Matawa Elder Maggie Magiskan will be providing an opening prayer and Elder Daniel Magiskan will be speaking about living with diabetes. The event will include information booths from participating community partners, a pre-walk warm-up exercise, a short walk around intercity shopping center and a cool-down. Certified Diabetes Educators/Registered Nurses will also be on-hand providing information on diabetes.
